Differences in parents’ styles of upbringing in a sample of bullied and non-bullied elementary school pupils

Abstract
This research aims at identifying the differences in parents’ styles of upbringing as shown in a sample of bullying and non-bullying elementary school pupils. Bullying at school is one of the social problems that necessarily requires more researches and wider studies to come to solutions and suggest recommendations in an attempt to terminate its exposition at schools. The research community is made up of 6th grade pupils of the 2nd Karkh Education Directorate of Baghdad. The sample is of 20 he-she students representing the bullying vs. 20 non-bullying he-she pupils. The descriptive analytical approach was adopted by the researcher who distributed a questionnaire constructed by her after testing validity and constancy to the parents of both groups.
The results show that the parents’ style plays a role in exposing bullying by pupils. There is also a statistical clue in favor of the male students to female as far as bullying conduct is concerned. Recommendations offered include starting parents-children dialogues to discuss problems they might face and try to find a way out to them; establishing a kind of cooperation between the school administration and the parents to achieve active collaboration; following a scientific pedagogical methods in education; and keeping the pupils away from the bad and incorrect conducts.
