Abstract
This research aims to identify the cognitive reality and administrative challenges of implementing artificial intelligence in northern Syrian universities from the perspective of faculty members. The descriptive analytical approach was employed in this study, with a sample community of 245 individuals. A random sample of 150 individuals was drawn from the research community, suitable for statistical analysis. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical analysis program. The outcome revealed that the level of knowledge among the sample members regarding the applications of artificial intelligence in the educational process was moderate. Additionally, the results indicated that the biggest challenges hindering the implementation of artificial intelligence in the educational process were the lack of specialized human resources in the field of AI (Artificial Intelligence) applications at the university, followed by the absence of guidelines for using such applications in education, and then the weakness of the university’s information security system, which protects it from breaches associated with some AI applications. There was also a lack of awareness among decision-makers in the university regarding the importance of using AI applications in the educational process, in addition to other less significant challenges. The results also indicated that there were differences in the level of knowledge among faculty members regarding AI applications according to gender, while no differences were found based on age. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences in perceiving the level of administrative challenges based on gender and age.
Key words: cognitive reality, administrative challenges, artificial intelligence, northern Syrian universities.
