Psychosocial Support for Parents of Syrian Children with Disabilities and Its Relationship to Some Variables “A Field Study in Northwest Syria”

Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify the level of psychosocial support for parents of Syrian children with disabilities and its relationship to some variables. The researchers embraced the descriptive approach, and the sample consisted of 110 fathers and mothers of children with disabilities, collected in 2023 from various areas in Northwest Syria through a non-random convenient sampling method. The researchers utilized the psychosocial support scale developed by Mustafa Awadallah (2020) and arrived at the following results:

• The level of psychosocial support was found to be moderate.
• There were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the sample members on the psychosocial support scale according to the gender variable (mother or father of the child with a disability).
• There were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the sample members on the psychosocial support scale according to the educational level variable.
• There were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the sample members on the psychosocial support scale according to the age variable.
• There were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the sample members on the psychosocial support scale according to the family monthly income variable, favoring an income of $100 – 300.
• There were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the sample members on the psychosocial support scale according to the type of disability.
