Abstract
This research aimed to identify the level of psychological adjustment among orphaned students in light of certain variables. It also sought to identify the nature of differences in the level of psychological adjustment among students in the second cycle of basic education according to the variables of orphanhood and gender. The researcher adopted the descriptive approach as the research methodology. The research sample consisted of 250 male and female students from the second cycle studying in schools in the city of Atarib, divided into a primary sample of 125 students and an additional sample of 125 students. The Psychological Adjustment Scale developed by Shqeir (2003) was used.
The research concluded with the following results: a low level of psychological adjustment among orphaned students in the second cycle; statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of orphaned and non-orphaned students, favoring the non-orphaned students; and statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of male and female orphaned students in the second cycle, favoring males.
