The phenomenon of recent slavery and the principles of Islamic education in dealing with it so as to bring about changes

Abstract

This research aims to know the methods followed by Islamic legislation in dealing with slavery as a phenomenon present in societies, and the sources from which slavery arises, then way the Sharia tackled slaves, and the steps followed to liberate them from their bondage. The purpose is to find out how Islamic education goes with human nature, and to achieve the principles it called for by educational methods.

To achieve these research purposes, we followed the historical approach which reviews the sources which contained the texts affiliated with this issue, and the text analysis approach as well, by understanding the texts in their social and historical contexts, The research came out with several very important results, including:

  • Slavery did not come with Islam, but it spread in old Greece, India and other civilizations for economic and political reasons.
  • There were many sources of slavery, including war, onerous debts, and killers’ enslaving, and others.
  • Islam came and raised the souls of Muslims to respect and appreciate the servant as a human being, and provided him with self-respect and appreciation in society.
  • Many legislations were revealed to liberate slaves after people believed in his justice and humanity.
