Abstract:

The goal of the research is to verify the nature of the role of the universities located in the north of Syria in advocating the students with special needs getting enrolled in the university programs, and identifying the essence of the students’ attitude towards it. The sample contains 127 individuals of persons in charge, faculty members and the students. Concerning those in charge and faculty members, they were randomly selected. As for the students with special needs, they were non-randomly selected from available students enrolled in the four universities (Free University of Aleppo – Cham University – International University of Science and Renaissance – Başak Şehir University). Three different questionnaires were applied to those in charge, faculty members and the students. All three designed by the scholars proved fair and consistent.

The results showed that:

1-    The role played by the universities in advocating the rights of the students with special needs is low-ranked according to the persons in charge, while that of the faculty staff is normal.

2-    There are negative attitudes on the part of the students with special needs to the role of the universities in advocating their rights.

3-    There are no disparities in the nature of the disabled students’ attitudes that coincide with the nature of the disability (oral-visual-motor impairment) along with disparities in terms of gender in favor of the female students.
Key Words: rights of the disabled – high studies – attitudes of the disabled – university advocating – persons in charge
