Effect of play-based learning strategy in teaching Arabic to Syrian students in Turkey, and their attitudes to it

Abstract:

The paper aims to identify the effect of play-based learning strategy in teaching the Arabic language to the Syrian students in Turkey and their attitude to it. The two scholars used the experimental approach. The study sample is of 26 4th grade students at Bakbala temporary Syrian school in the district of Hatay, which was deliberately selected. Two classes were randomly chosen, one pilot with 13 students educated according to play-based strategy, the other one is feasible of (13) students educated traditionally. To achieve the goals of the study, a test and a form were used as research tools. The results are:

  • Difference of statistical significance is found between the average of the two samples at the level of 0.05 in favor of the pilot one, referring to the rising effect of the implemented strategy after the usage of Eta squared the value of which reached 0.564.
  • Statistical significance at the level of 0.05 found in the average of the students’ scores with the gender variable in favor of the male students.
  • Positive attitude to play-based strategy expressed in the pilot sample.
